About me

Aurora Da SilvaPersonal Profile

I am a qualified Person-centred Counsellor (FDA Degree in Arts Counselling) I obtained my degree through Middlesex University. I am a Registered Member of BACP and I conform to the BACP code of ethics. I established my own counselling services called “Need to Talk” which is a charity funded organisation.

As well as my role as a counsellor and supervisor I am a counselling tutor with adult education for the last 6 years.

My work has been varied across various areas:

  • mental health
  • couples & families
  • addictions, and
  • Young people

A lot of the people I see are dealing with the effects of childhood trauma. The traumas might have been emotional, physical, mental, sexual or spiritual and any of these aspects of self may be affected.

Having worked with such a diversity of people over a long period of time, I work in a client-centred way, incorporating integrative approaches, depending on what is most appropriate.

As a supervisor, I provide the trainee counsellor room to work with the client, helping them to understand the client from different perspectives; I keep monitor the counsellor’s work, exploring the working alliance.

I am a friendly and committed person with experience in dealing with many people in stressful situations. Adapting easily to new environments, happy to work as part of a team. I have no prejudice against any race, culture, disability or religion.

I have an empathetic approach to my clients which is based on confidentiality and trust. In a session I create a safe and non-judgemental environment where clients are made to feel valued, understood, listened to and free to express and explore any concern.

I take my work seriously and trust my client to take an active role in their journey.
